SINGAPORE - Its official name is the Republic of Singapore Singapore, is an island nation off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, 137 kilometres (85 mi) North of the equator in South East Asia. The country is separated from Malaysia by the Straits of Johor to the North, and from the Riau Islands, Indonesia by the Singapore Strait in the South. Singapore is the fourth leading financial centre in the world and a cosmopolitan world city which plays an important role in trade and international finance. The port of Singapore is one of the five busiest ports in the world.
