The Bornean orangutan, Pongo pygmaeus, is a species of orangutan native to the island of Borneo. Along with the smaller Sumatran orangutan, Bornean orangutan belonging to the genus pongo can be found in Asia. The Bornean orangutan has a long lifetime of 35 to 40 years in the wild, while in captivity can reach the age of 60 years.

While the subspecies of Pongo pygmaeus morio (Northeast Bornean Orangutan) are found in East Kalimantan (Indonesia) and Sabah (Malaysia).
The Bornean orangutan population is indeed more than his brother Sumatran orangutan. Its population is estimated at between 45,000 and 69,000 tail (Caldecott and Miles 2005). Some locations that become the habitat of these rare endemic animals include Betung Kerihun National Park (2000 tail), TN Danau Sentarum (500), Bukit Baka Bukit Raya TN (175 tail), TN Mountain Troughs (2,500-tail), and the Cavity as well as Parai (1000 tail).
