PARIS (PERANCIS) - Paris (pronunciation:/pærɨs ˈ in the United Kingdom is the capital city of France. Located on the river Seine, in Northern France, at the heart of the Île-de-France region (also known as the "Paris Region"; in French: Région Parisienne). The city of Paris in its administrative limits (unchanged since 1860) has a population of 2.167.994 inhabitants (January 2006). the Paris Unité urbaine (or urban area) extends beyond the administrative city limits and has an estimated population of 9.93 million (2005). the Paris Aire urbaine (or metropolitan area) has a population of nearly 12 million people and is one of the most populous metropolitan areas in Europe.

An important settlement for more than two millennia, Paris is today one of the leading business and cultural centers in the world, and the mix of politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science, and the arts all help her status as one of the world's largest global city. the Paris Region (Île-de-France) is Europe's biggest city economy and the fifth largest in the world's list of cities by GDP. With € 500.8 billion (the US $ 628.9 billion), it produces a quarter of the gross domestic product (GDP) of France in 2006. the Paris Region hosts 38 of the Fortune Global 500 companies in several business districts, notably La Défense, the largest purpose-built business district in Europe. Paris also hosts many international organizations such as UNESCO, OECD, ICC, and the Paris Club.


Paris is the most popular tourist destination in the world, with 30 million foreign visitors per year. there are a number of well-known landmarks among the various institutions for the attraction, along with the famous and most popular parks in the world.

Paris is located in a bend of the Seine River toward the North and consists of two islands, Île Saint-Louis and the Île de la Cité, which form the oldest part of the city. Overall, the city is relatively flat, and the lowest point is 35 m (115 ft) above sea level. Paris has several prominent hills, of which the highest is Montmartre at 130 m (426 ft).

  • Eiffle Tower
