Ghozali Everyday, perseverance, and netizens' misconceptions about NFT

Ghozali Everyday - Non-Fungible Token or NFT has suddenly become a popular word in Indonesia, especially in cyberspace. Ghozali's appearance through selfie photos that can earn up to billions of rupiah in profits on NFT is the cause.

Ghozali's selfies with the concept of Ghozali Everyday or taking pictures of himself every day, were sold in one of the largest NFT marketplaces, OpenSea. His iconic work garnered attention so that it was valued dearly.

Starting from just an experiment placing selfie photos on NFT, Ghozali was surprised because it turned out that someone had bought it. Ghozali Everyday has taken selfies since 2017 and the number reached 933 photos when they were sold out on NFT.

He priced the photo at $3/item, or the equivalent of Rp. 43,000, assuming an exchange rate of Rp. 14,200 per US dollar. Now, the price of selfies on NFT is getting more and more expensive, along with the increasing popularity of Ghozali Everyday.

"I just saw an opportunity. In OpenSea NFT, you could say that no one uploads selfies at all," said Gholazi.

This man from Semarang plans to take selfies every day until he graduates. He did this on purpose to make a video showing a photo of his transformation over the past five years with a timelapse theme. Ghozali is the second of three children. This 22-year-old man is a seventh semester student at the Faculty of Computer Science, Department of 4-Dimensional Animation, Dian Nuswantoro University (Udinus), Semarang.

"I want to continue this story. The first photo is in 2017. It's a SMK graduate. I want to take another photo until this year. I'm in the seventh semester. So, there's a story. Later, the last photo I took was wearing a toga (graduation). So, there is a story behind the photo. There is a journey," said Ghozali.

Even when he put it on the NFT, he was actually just doing an experiment, aka a fad. Ghozali was surprised that his selfies sold well and then went viral, not only in Indonesia, but also abroad. "First, I gave the standard for the cheapest price, the goal is so that no one buys it," said the figure whose real name is Sultan Gustaf Al Ghozali.

Most of those who bought Ghozali's NFT works were because they were entertained, because selfies were funny and made into memes. Chef Arnold Poernomo and a number of his friends are NFT collectors who buy Ghozali Everyday's works.

Ghozali, who aspires to become an animator, admits that he has earned at least Rp. 1.7 billion from selling his selfies on NFT. However, Ghozali had just disbursed Rp 39 million. Then he used the money to help his parents and build an animation studio.

But, what exactly is NFT anyway? Why selfie photos can be valued up to billions of rupiah? How about creating and selling works via NFT? Then, what is meant by NFT as a crypto investment asset?

Ghozali's figure skyrocketed after he managed to get up to billions of rupiah in Non-Fungible Tokens or NFTs, one of the crypto-derived investment assets.

At NFT, Ghozali Everyday carries a work with the concept of selfie every day. He sells his selfies which total 933 NFT items on OpenSea, which is one of the largest NFT marketplaces. In his confession on the Deddy Corbuizer Podcast, Ghozali has so far earned IDR 1.7 billion.

Ghozali's success in earning a lot of money through selfies sold on OpenSea, has influenced other people in the country to do the same. This can be seen from the drastic increase in photos of Indonesians sold on the NFT marketplace after the Ghozali Everyday phenomenon.

The goal is clear, for the sake of making big profits, as experienced by Ghozali. But, in fact, there are still not many Indonesians who know and understand NFT. Recently, photos of Indonesians taking selfies with ID cards have appeared on the NFT marketplace. There are also those who sell indecent photos.

One of the NFT marketplaces in Indonesia, TokoMall by Tokocrypto, enthusiastically welcomed Ghozali Everday Effect. According to Thelvia Vennieta, Head of TokoMall, this phenomenon has made more people aware of NFT and more and more people are creative in the NFT world.

However, said Thelvia, this awareness needs to be increased through education, where creators and collectors must understand more about NFT and what dangers can occur in the creation of NFT. From Ghozali Everyday Effect, there are a number of creators uploading personal data such as ID cards to NFT, which can actually be misused by irresponsible parties.

He explained, in this commotion, people need to understand in more detail that there are actually many utilities from this technology. NFT can be used for community membership, ticketing, and exclusive merchandising.

"So if we look at the hype, it may not be good, but I am grateful for this hype, because awareness about NFT is increasing. Our job as players in the NFT world, then the task of some people who may be concerned In this NFT, it is educating the public about what NFT values we need to highlight and maybe we can look at it from the technology side and its dangers," explained Thelvia.

He views positively about the prospects for the NFT business in Indonesia. Even though according to him personally, many Indonesians are still in the very early stages of getting to know NFT and are still exploring to discover the function of NFT.

"So for the future prospects themselves and also judging from the existing volume chart from 2021, it will continue to increase, in my personal opinion. We can also see from other marketplace data, there may be a decline from August to November 2021, but in December 2021 itself will rise again and in January it will also continue to rise," he said.

Thelvia is optimistic that the progress of NFT in the country will be faster, because she believes that Indonesian people are creative. The Ghozali Everyday Effect could be a turning point for increasing awareness of the use of NFT and trading volume for NFT.

"In Indonesia, I think the people are creative and our culture is, then the MSME business system in Indonesia is very creative so it can be tapped into NFT. And more and more people are engaged in this business and understand about NFT If you can see the business opportunities or gaps that can be obtained from NFT, it will definitely continue to increase in the future," said Thelvia.
