RUSSIA - The Federation of Russia (Russia: Росси́йская Федера́ция, also transliterated: Rossiyskaya Federatsiya,) about this sound listen (help · info), or Russia (Russia: Росси́я, Rossiya; also transliterated: Tatar language: Рәсәй), is a country with vast stretches of East Europe and Northern Asia. With an area of 17.075.400 km², Russia is the largest country in the world. Its area approximately twice the area of people's Republic of China (China, REPUBLIC of CHINA), Canada, or the United States. Its population ranks seventh in the world after the people's Republic of China, India, the United States, Indonesia, Brazil, and Pakistan.

This country used to be the largest state at the time of the Soviet Union. Russia is a major beneficiary of the Soviet Union; the country inherited a 50% population, 2/3 of the total area, and approximately 50% of the economic assets and guns.
